Masquerade Hotel – Sebuah kasus pembunuhan terjadi di Tokyo. Polisi segera melakukan investigasi pada kasus tersebut, ditemukannya angka aneh yang berada di lokasi tempat kejadian pembunuhan tersebut. Saat kasus tersebut diinvestigasi dan mulai terlihat pola kasus tersebut, pembunuhan kedua terjadi. Sama dengan pembunuhan pertama, pelaku di pembunuhan kedua juga meninggalkan jejak berupa angka aneh, namun cara pembunuhannya berbeda. Saat detektif yang bertanggung jawab atas investigasi kasus ini mulai bergerak dan menemukan bukti-bukti terkait pelaku, kasus pembunuhan ketiga terjadi dan memiliki pola yang sama dengan kasus-kasus sebelumnya. 

Pihak Kepolisian menduga bahwa ketiga kasus ini berkaitan atau pembunuhan berantai. Setelah dugaan tersebut didiskusikan dengan banyak kepala maka ditemukan arti angka aneh tersebut yaitu tempat pembunuhan berikutnya akan terjadi. Dari kasus ketiga ditemukan bahwa kasus pembunuhan keempat akan dilakukan di Hotel Cortesia. Polisi segera membentuk satuan tugas untuk menggagalkan pembunuhan selanjutnya ini.

🙋🏻‍♂️ Wahh seru banget! Awalnya novel Keigo terbaik menurutku adalah Angsa & Kelelawar dan belum ada yang menurunkan tahtanya, tapi sekarang Masquerade Hotel adalah novel Keigo terbaik menurutku. Alur cerita dari novel ini tuh beda dari yang lain, biasanya detektif itu menginvestigasi hanya untuk mengetahui dan menangkap si pelaku pembunuhan tapi di sini tujuan utama investigasi itu adalah untuk mencegah pembunuhan terjadi. Berbeda dari Angsa & Kelelawar yang terasa lebih lambat (slow paced) alurnya, plot cerita ini tuh seru banget karena menghadirkan nuansa tegang yang terus menerus dari awal sampai akhir cerita, jadi menurutku novel ini ngga ada celah membosankannya sama sekali. Dari segi karakteristik tokohnya juga bikin aku lebih terbawa sama ceritanya lagi, apalagi duet antara Naomi dan Nitta yang mereka dari dua latar belakang pengalaman yang berbeda tapi bisa menyatukan pikiran untuk mengungkap pembunuhannya. Konsep cerita dengan menghadirkan tamu hotel sebagai subjek investigasi juga sangat bikin alur ceritanya menarik, karena kita jadi curiga ke semua tamu yang datang ke hotelnya apalagi rata-rata tamu hotelnya punya banyak karakteristik dan sering membuat keanehan tersendiri. 

🙋🏻‍♀️ Buatku ini lebih seru dari ‘Angsa dan Kelelawar’ novel karya Keigo lainnya. Karena, plot twist-nya gak ketebak walau kita sebenarnya sudah dibuat suspicious sama masing-masing karakter. Novel ini sangat aku rekomendasikan kalau kalian lagi mau baca novel genre detektif. Plus buku ini gak terlalu bertele-tele dan sangat menegangkan karena kita disajikan narasi bagaimana ‘si pembunuh’ ingin membunuh mangsanya.

Masquerade Hotel – A murder case happened in Tokyo. Police conduct an investigation for the cases as soon as possible, then they find a weird number arrangement in the crime scene. While the investigation has started and the patterns seem to be predictable, the second murder happens. Similar to the first murder case, the perpetrator in the second case also left traces in the form of weird number arrangement, but the difference is in how the victim was murdered. As the detective in charge of investigating the case begins to move and find evidence related to the perpetrator, a third murder case happens and has the same pattern as the previous cases. 

The police suspected that these three cases were related or it is a serial killings. After the suspicion was discussed with many persons, it was found that the meaning of the strange number was the place where the next murder would occur. From the third case it was discovered that the fourth murder would be committed at the Cortesia Hotel. The police immediately formed a task force to thwart this next murder.

Was the fourth murder failed? Who was the next target victim and what was the perpetrator's motive?

Nick and Nora’s Mind

🙋🏻‍♂️ How exciting! Previously the best Keigo novel in my opinion was Angsa & Kelelawar and no one has dethroned it, but now Masquerade Hotel is the best Keigo novel in my opinion. The storyline of this novel is different from others, usually the detective investigates only to find out and catch the murderer but here the main purpose of the investigation is to prevent the murder from happening. Unlike Angsa & Kelelawar, which is slower paced, the plot of this story is really exciting because it presents a continuous tense feel from the beginning to the end of the story, so I don't think this novel has a boring gap at all. The characteristics of the characters also made me even more carried away by the story, especially the duet between Naomi and Nitta, who are from two different backgrounds of experience but can unite their minds to solve the murder. The concept of the story by presenting hotel guests as the subject of the investigation is also very interesting, because we become suspicious of all guests who come to the hotel, especially since the average hotel guest has many characteristics and often makes its own oddities. 

🙋🏻‍♀️ For me, this is more exciting than Keigo's other novel 'The Swan and the Bat'. Because, the plot twist is unpredictable even though we are already suspicious of each character. I highly recommend this novel if you want to read a detective genre novel. Plus, this book is not too wordy and very suspenseful because we are presented with a narrative of how the 'killer' wants to kill his prey.
