Cerita ini berfokus pada dua sahabat karib SMA, Atsuko dan Yuki, yang saling menyayangi namun terjebak dalam berbagai kesalahpahaman. Atsuko merasa kesal karena Yuki menjadikannya inspirasi dalam sebuah novel, sementara Yuki meyakini bahwa Atsuko membencinya karena suatu hal yang tak pernah terucap. 🙋Novel dan premis cerita ini jujur awal awal ngebosenin banget sih, karena ya hanya memaparkan isi hati dan pikiran anak-anak perempuan labil aja. Gak ada signifikan permasalahan yang besar. Sampailah di tengah dan akhir cerita, dimana semua karakter rupanya terkait satu dengan yang lain, dan akhirnya menjawab misteri yang ada di awal cerita. 

Dibanding novel-novel Minato Kanae yang straight to the point dengan tema yang dark, novel ini lebih light namun masih ada misterinya juga.

This novel explores the dark side of teenage psychology, especially a fixation with death. It highlights the contrast between Yuki who is cold and manipulative and Atsuko who is insecure but wants to appear strong. The story switches between their perspectives and gives a complex yet easy to follow narrative. It is a psychological thriller that hits adults quite hard even though it is set in high school life.

Here comes the review
The story begins with a mysterious suicide note from a girl, which opens the door to a battle of emotions inside a female friendship. The novel focuses on two close friends in high school, Atsuko and Yuki. They care for each other, but they are trapped in misunderstandings. Atsuko feels annoyed because Yuki uses her as inspiration for a novel, while Yuki believes that Atsuko hates her for something that was never said. Behind all that conflict, both of them still hold deep affection and attachment.

Summer break becomes the turning point. Atsuko works as a caregiver in a nursing home to meet her sports score requirements, while Yuki volunteers in another home. During that whole summer they never meet even though both want to talk. In the end, the family situations of the residents bring them back together. Slowly the summer story connects to the suicide note from the beginning, revealing how every event is linked and forms a complete story.

At first I honestly found the novel a bit boring. It only describes the feelings and thoughts of teenage girls who are unstable. There is no major conflict. But when you reach the middle and final part, you realize that every character is connected and it all finally answers the mystery from the beginning.

Compared to Minato Kanae’s usual novels that are very dark, this one is lighter but still has its mystery.
